Modern diesel engines are far more complex than their predecessors. They rely on high-pressure common rail fuel injection systems operating at pressures exceeding 30,000 PSI, variable geometry turbochargers, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems, diesel particulate filters (DPF), diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) injection systems, and sophisticated engine management computers. Diagnosing problems in these interconnected systems requires diesel-specific scan tools and a thorough understanding of how each component interacts with the others. Turbocharger Service & DPF/DEF Systems

The turbocharger is the powerhouse behind every modern diesel engine, and when it starts to fail, the symptoms are unmistakable: excessive black smoke, loss of power, unusual whistling or whining noises, and increased oil consumption. At RepairTech Automotive, we diagnose turbocharger problems by testing boost pressure, inspecting the variable geometry vane mechanism, checking for shaft play, and verifying the electronic actuator operation. Whether your turbo needs a rebuild or replacement, we use quality components that meet or exceed OEM specifications.

The diesel particulate filter is a critical emissions component that traps soot particles from the exhaust stream. Over time, the DPF accumulates soot and must undergo a regeneration cycle to burn off the collected particulate matter. When the DPF becomes excessively clogged, the engine enters a reduced power mode and triggers warning lights. We perform forced DPF regenerations, clean DPF units, and diagnose the underlying causes of excessive soot loading such as faulty injectors, EGR valve malfunctions, or turbocharger problems that prevent normal regeneration cycles from completing.

The DEF system, which injects diesel exhaust fluid (AdBlue) into the exhaust stream to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, is another common source of diesel trouble codes. We service DEF injectors, DEF pumps, NOx sensors, and SCR catalytic converters. We also handle diesel oil change services using the correct CJ-4 or CK-4 rated diesel engine oils and premium filtration, glow plug diagnostics and replacement for hard starting and cold weather performance, and fuel system services including water separator maintenance and fuel filter replacement to keep your diesel running clean and strong.

Diesel maintenance is not one-size-fits-all. We follow the factory schedule for your engine — quoted at check-in, no menu prices on the website.

Mercedes-Benz Diesel — Service A & Service B

Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC passenger cars and SUVs use the same ASSYST program as gasoline models. When your cluster shows Service A or Service B, we confirm which is due, perform the factory checklist with diesel-rated full synthetic oil, check DEF level, inspect the fuel filter interval, and reset the service indicator through Autologic.

PowerStroke, Duramax & Cummins — Factory Intervals

Domestic light-duty diesels do not use Mercedes-style Service letters. Each manufacturer publishes its own interval schedule — typically combining oil and filter service, fuel filter replacement, DEF top-off, and coolant or transmission milestones at specific mileage and time marks.

Our diesel minor service includes:

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you service Duramax, Powerstroke and Cummins?

Yes — light and medium duty diesel truck repair is a core service. Those three platforms each have their own known failure patterns, and our ASE Master certified technicians diagnose them rather than swapping parts.

Why is my diesel blowing black or white smoke?

Black smoke generally means too much fuel or not enough air — injectors, turbo, or an intake restriction. White smoke on a warm engine often points at unburned fuel or coolant entering a cylinder. The color narrows it down, but only testing confirms it.

How often should diesel fuel filters be changed?

More often than most owners expect, and it matters more than on a gas engine — modern high-pressure common-rail systems are unforgiving of contamination, and a fuel system failure is a very expensive repair. We check filter condition on every inspection.

The reductant heater keeps DEF from freezing and from being dosed wrong; when its circuit fails the aftertreatment system stops working properly and the truck can end up derated.
